Unlocking The Best Version Of Yourself

Most of us, or I should say all of us, at some time or the other in our lives come to a realization and question: who we are actually? Is it whom our parents told us how should we be? Or is it our schooling? Societal norms? What has impacted our identity overall?

Today, we are going to talk about “You”. This article is going to help you do some self-discovery and come to terms with yourself.

Our personalities are impacted by a lot of things since the time we are born like our family, schooling, upbringing, friends, experiences, etc. and whatever we go through in our childhood or teen age has a long term impact on our minds because it is a very tender age and our minds are still developing, our personalities are in midst of shaping and we are in the process of transitioning from a child to an adult.

In the race of becoming successful, we often neglect our actual desires and start chasing things that we think will make us more successful in the eyes of others. We don’t realize that it is not about chasing anything external which will make you successful or happy: be it materialistic things like money, cars, jets, or even any person. The only person who can make you happy is you, the only success you can have is when you are living your life on your terms without any outside influence. It sounds so easy to do it, but it is indeed very difficult given the social conditioning we have had while growing up. It’s time now to begin a journey of a lifetime to meet a person you are destined to be with forever who can give you all the happiness and peace of mind that you crave and that person is “You” my friend.

But the question is how we do that? It is very simple yet very complicated because it is going to include a lot of unlearning and peeling off the old mindset and conditioning.

Let’s dive deeper into this aspect through some points below:

 

  1. The Best project you will ever work upon is You.

If you want to become your best self then you would want to know about your strengths and your improvement areas, therefore, start doing the things that you love doing the most, start exploring different things whether personally or professionally. Involve yourself into different activities and projects going around like community development activities, internships, volunteering, event organizing, tree plantation drives, workshops or anything you can be a part of, it will give you exposure and you will realize a lot about your own capabilities, skills, fears, shortcomings and strengths. These things will help you grow as an individual and give you a sense of accomplishment which is the greatest feeling which in turn will make you happy.

  1. Connect with your inner voice.

The journey to become your authentic self starts with listening to your inner voice. That is- to your heart. Nobody in the world knows you better than you. You have been with yourself through each second of your life. You are solely responsible for what you are going to make out of the life given to you by God. So, make sure you are living it the best way possible and living like your authentic self wants you to live. You can’t run away from yourself. Listen to your heart and do things which feel right to you

 

  1. Be your own hero.

Stop depending upon others for your happiness right away. You are complete on your own. Thinking someone will come and save you is a negative mindset that will ruin you emotionally. You don’t need anybody to make you feel whole. Just focus on yourself, create the life you dream of, with your hard work and focus. The Universe will make it happen, watching you beam in Self-love.

 

  1. Cut off the negativity.

We often listen to one particular quote or saying by Buddha which says, “What you think you become. What you feel you attract. What you imagine you create”. It means what you have in your mind and what you feel about yourself will become your reality. If you think you can’t do it then you will not be able to do it, if you think you are not good enough, then this thinking will bring you down in whatever you want to achieve, whether personal or professional. Universe works on frequency and vibration. So, just think positively about yourself, and love the person you see in the mirror. God has created you like that. Be You-nique. Own your strengths and weaknesses and flaws as well. I know it’s easier said than done but thinking negatively about your own self will attract more negativity and make your life miserable. Insulting yourself means insulting the God who has created you. If you yourself don’t respect you then obviously you will attract people who will not respect you either. Lastly, cut off ties with any person too who makes you feel small and badly about yourself. Self-love means that you need to cut out all toxic and negative people from your life and the version of yourself who allowed them to treat you like that.

 

  1. Take care of your Body, Mind and Soul.

“Health is Wealth”, the most common saying, yet the most neglected one. You must take care of your health at any cost; I can’t emphasize on it enough. Your body is your first home, you have to live in until you are dead. Honor it, feed it healthy food rich in nutrients. stop treating it like a dustbin and filling it up with harmful food. Exercise daily, drink water, take care of your skin and hair, take care of yourself the way you would do for a child.

Do not neglect the mental and emotional needs of your body either. Only small habits like drinking water on empty stomach, 10 minutes of meditation, 20 minutes of walking, saying positive affirmations, doing a hobby for half an hour daily can-do wonders for you mind, body and soul. Don’t underestimate the power of small things as they can have the most significant impact on your life.

 

  1. Spend time with your own self.

I often hear people saying, “What will I do alone?”, “I will get bored alone”,I don’t want to be alone” etc. and I wonder how people cannot enjoy their own company.

Spending time with yourself is so important. You should be your best buddy first and then other people should come in your friend list. Nobody can mess with a person who is not afraid to be alone. There is an incredible amount of freedom that comes with not “needing” to depend on other people to enjoy your life. I am not saying that you should not want other people or just be with yourself all the time, as humans are not designed to be alone like that. You should definitely have a friend circle, relationships and network as much as you can, interact with people, socialize, but don’t neglect spending time on your own. This will, in turn, help you in maintaining other relationships in your life because now you will not have unhealthy emotional attachments to other people.

  1. Start helping others.

Last but not the least, start helping your community. This is not just to help the people in need but the level of happiness you get when you see other people being happy because of you is another level of self-satisfaction.

 

In conclusion, self-discovery is a process. It’s a journey. You won’t master yourself in a few days or months. It’s an ongoing process and a very enjoyable one, trust me. Your relationship with yourself will impact all other relations you have in your life. You co-create your life with the Universe. Start making a Goals/Dreams list right away and work on checking-off the items in your list one by one. Happy Journey everyone, to your authentic self. The destination will be worth it.
