Recent achievement:
Zoe is a 2nd place winner in the Junior Visual Arts division of the 2021 Spring-Summer Battle of the Teal visual and performing art showcase.
Artist statement:
I enjoy drawing portraits, nature, and fantastical scenes. Drawing allows me to enhance my written stories, visually express my imaginings, and portray certain beliefs and themes that are important to me such as care of nature, kindness towards others, and women’s power. I use mainly pencils, charcoal, ink, and pens to create my drawings.
Artist introduction:
I heard about Battle of the Teal from a suggestion from my mother, who encouraged me to submit something for the competition. The whole experience was fantastic, and I enjoyed seeing others’ art and placements. I was thrilled and actually quite surprised when I received notice of my placement in the competition. The pieces I submitted were mainly inspired by my emotions and feelings about the pandemic and my struggles throughout the year. Some of them also had some influence on my storytelling passion. I often sketch out scenes and characters from my writing and my stories, and I love making art from the imagination. I play flute and piano and enjoy creative writing and reading. Writing, music, and art are large parts of my life, and I especially love seeing all of them put together in movies, which I hope to pursue a career for in the future. My passion for art and writing began early on in preschool and kindergarten, in which I constantly wrote picture books accompanied by drawings, stapling papers together to make them. I later began classes at CIA, which allowed me to improve my skill greatly. I hope my work can inspire others to enter the field of the visual arts, and I always enjoy collaborating on stories and art with friends and others who share my interests. What I love most about art is the way to express oneself and let others have a glimpse into your own view of the world.
