Sarah Cooper was a student at Ohio University when she obtained a Bachelor’s in Fine Arts. After building her portfolio in painting and drawing, she decided to go into teaching to share her love of the arts with children. She then went back to school to obtain a Master’s in Art Education. Sarah has now been teaching art at Townslee Elementary in Brunswick for 10 years.
Throughout Sarah’s journey as a teacher, she has been looking for competitions for her students to compete in with no success until recently. Sarah was excited to find iN Education’s Battle of the Teal Showcase, which allowed her students to participate in a juried show. Her students had the opportunity to mentor with professionals in the industry, receive feedback, and receive prizes. The competition was free to her students, and it happens multiple times throughout the year. She had 16 students participate and hopes to have many more at the next Battle of the Teal Showcase.
Sarah looks forward to exploring more opportunities for her students and is excited to share the experience with other teachers throughout her district. She wants to unify kids throughout NE Ohio, hoping to find ways to connect students of various backgrounds through the arts, allowing them to express their experiences visually. Sarah recently became part of the Advisory Board for the Battle of the Teal and will be exploring other ways to unite the communities through the arts. Stay tuned, because this isn’t the last you will hear from Sarah, as she’s full of some exciting ideas.
If you want to be like Sarah and have your students participate in the Battle of the Teal showcase, please contact our offices today. The Battle of the Teal Showcase is constantly growing, and we have other programs being added all the time.
